Interview: Anjali Sharma eager to see a 'duty of care' impact all government decisions, especially those that worsen climate change
from Climate Conversations · host Robert McLean
Anjali Sharma (pictured) played a lead role in arguing that the Federal Government owed all young Australians a duty to take reasonable care to protect them from climate change harm - they case initially fell in their favour, but then was lost on appeal. Anjali and her contemporaries not disheartened by that "defeat", continued with preparation of their argument and now with the support of Australian Capital Territory Senator, David Pocock, a private members Bill calling for a duty of care is now before the Senate. People can learn more about the BIll's proposals through the Duty of Care website. Also, you can make a submission via this link: "Climate Change Amendment (Duty of Care and Intergenerational Climate Equity) Bill 2023".
