INTERVIEW BRIEN FOESTER

Published December 17th, 2021. Brien was born in Rochester, Minnesota, USA but grew up on the west coast of Canada. At age 11, he became fascinated with the native art of the Haida people and began carving totem poles and other related art forms, learning from native teachers. After completing a Bachelor of Science, Brien decided to study sculpture and sculpture full-time. In 1995 he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the construction of the 62-foot double-hull sailing canoe (ancestor of the modern catamaran) Mo'okiha O Pi'ilani (Holy Lizard Piercing the Heavens) and the restoration of the famous Mo'olele sailing canoe. There, having learned to make Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddles from master woodcarver Keola Sequiera, he started an online outrigger business, which has flourished internationally. Peru became his next big area of ​​interest. The study of Inca culture led him to write a book, "A Brief History of the Incas", and he is now the assistant director of the Paracas History Museum in Paracas, south of Lima. It also helps the municipality of Paracas to improve the number of foreign tourists visiting it, and is fundamental for the expansion of tourism in general. His current projects include exploring Hawaii's ancient history, the mysterious stone monuments of pre-Inca Peru, and the search for the lost continent of Mu. He is the author of eight books, participated in the series "Alienies of the Past" and now resides in Peru with his wife.
