Interview: Climate epiphany - 'It just felt like living in nightmare' - Amy Blain; And John Smith from Canberrra's Peoples Climate Assembly

from Climate Conversations · host Robert McLean

The Australian 2019-20 bushfires saw Amy Blain and her young family trapped on the beach at Bermagui in New South Wales. Amy had always been concerned about environmental issues, but that moment of "living in a nightmare" was an epiphany for her. Returning safely from her bushfire/Bermagui experience, Amy decided it was time to take her activism to a new level and now she chairs Canberra's Peoples Climate Assembly. Climate Conversations made contact with Amy via the group's treasurer, John Smith, during a webinar organized by Anjali Sharma, to talk about the "Duty of Care" and the Bill that is being taken to the Senate by Australian Capital Territory Senator, David Pocock. In this episode, we talk with both Amy and John about when and why the assembly came together, what it's achieved and what's ahead. Beyond the group's website, people can engage with the group through its Facebook page and via Instagram.
