Interview: How I Found Life While Grieving the Loss of My Husband

from Change My Relationship · host Karla Downing

In 2017, Christine’s husband John died suddenly following what should have been a routine operation. They had been married 24 years, and their daughter was 18 at the time. Less than three years after her husband’s death, both of Christine’s parents died, adding more layers to her grief. In this interview, she describes her intentional grieving process and the things that helped her to survive and thrive, or "surthrive" as she called it. Christine is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in helping clients navigate the grief journey, enabling her to share helpful insights from her professional and personal experience.   The psychological-emotional-spiritual journey of recovery from the loss of significant family members led Christine to relocate from California to Tennessee three years ago. Christine’s relationship with Jesus Christ has been a cornerstone to her ability to thrive in what might be considered devastating circumstances. She writes in detail about her process of grief in her new book called Falling Is Part of the Journey: How I Found Life While Grieving Losses.   Christine Lister is licensed to do marriage and family therapy in Tennessee and California. Her practice is physically located in the central time zone in East Tennessee where she offers both in person and video sessions. Her specialties include recovery from grief and loss, especially loss of a spouse, and anxiety management from a Christ-focused approach.   Christine Lister's website: ListerCounseling.com.
