Interview: Michael Goldberg - Contrary

from Australian Investors Podcast · host Rask

Michael Goldberg is the Founder & Portfolio Manager of the Collins St Value Fund, a funds management company based in Melbourne. Michael’s history as an investor and adviser culminated with the launch of their own fund in 2015. His style of investing can be characterised as high conviction and contrarian, meaning he and Vas back themselves into ideas that others would find uncomfortable. Michael prides himself on his team’s boots on the ground due diligence which, as we explore in the podcast, can result in more than a few interesting stories. Michael’s entrepreneurial tendencies and business savviness began long before he became a professional investor. For example, Michael started his own disruptive cleaning business in Israel after seeing an opportunity whilst he pursued his studies. This episode is rich with lessons for life, investing, the research process, money and business. I’ll listen back to this one a few times. I hope you enjoy it.
