INTERVIEW: Who are the Houthis?

from SBS News In Depth

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis say they're imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, a move that opens a new front against the United States in its war on Iran and widens the threat to global energy supplies and trade beyond the Gulf. Iran wanted the Houthis to close the Bab el-Mandeb gateway to the Red Sea if the U.S. continued to attack Iranian power infrastructure. The US says it will 'take care' of the Houthis. So who are the Houthis? Farea al-Muslimi is a research fellow at Chatham House's Middle East and North Africa program. He's told Reuters they dominate Yemen.
