Hello Priya. Hi, bye. Finally. Okay, great.
So for my audience today, I have Priya Vishwanathan, of Dance with Priya. She is very passionate about dancing and she has been offering one-on-one lessons as well as group lessons. So I was very interested in learning more about Priya's Dance with Priya when I got an invite for her free workshop, which is hosting very, very shortly. So welcome to my podcast show Priya.
It's really, really, really excited to talk to you. So tell me about yourself. Well, I'm really excited to talk to you as well. And I started Dance at Free, my new dance venture about two months ago.
And I have eight students now and I'm really enjoying it. Very passionate about teaching dance. It's been a part of me from a young age. Right now, I offer both group and private lessons.
My next workshop is in about 10 days on March 13th. And this really gives a feel for people what the class will be about. So it's really good to attend it, you know, if you want a better idea. Basically in that half an hour, I teach an entire song, dance to an entire song.
They're pretty easy steps to follow. So it's fun. You get a workout in, you meet new people. And yeah, it's really great.
So you should try a new form of dance such as Bollywood. Wow. You mentioned you got eight students within two months. Yeah.
That is really, really, I don't know what to say. Really great, really awesome. And I think in marketing, we say attraction marketing. So you are attracting your clients.
And you said that you had your first workshop, maybe a month back. Is that correct or not? Yeah, the beginning of February, I had my first workshop and that went really well. I had about 15 people show up, you know, Friday, few people joined my dance class after it.
So they really enjoyed it. They had a great time and they're enjoying my class as well. Well, great. So tell me about your first workshop.
Like, you know, how many, I mean, you did mention, I think you did mention, how about 15 participants. So tell me what age group and how do they, like, as a dance teacher, you tell me, like how each of these age, each different age groups received that workshop. How did they receive the workshop? Oh, yeah.
They all really loved it. I, you know, put a minimum age of 12 years. No one that young had come. But I would say, you know, in the early 20s to about 65 years old, they were at the workshop.
And you know, I made it, made the dance level, like, you know, pretty, pretty easy for everyone to follow of any age group. And yeah, it was a great feel of what it would be like if they joined the class and they had a good time. So how many, how many, it was it for an hour or what's the duration of the workshop? Yeah, it was just 30 minutes.
You know, I think that that's a good amount of time to get people, you know, kind of started into this kind of, like, activity. If they've not done much of dancing, you know, I don't want to have them suddenly do like a couple hours at once. So yeah, 30 minutes. Makes makes complete sense.
So how do you, how do you deliver your workshop? Like, you know, right now, what is the, you know, what kind of digital media are you using? How do you deliver it? Yeah.
So my classes are through Zoom. So basically they just have to install Zoom and, you know, with free and, you know, it works well. That's all you really need. And, you know, with COVID and not much activity for a lot of people, this is great for everyone.
You know, you get yourself moving from your own home, you don't have to step out of the house. So it's safe, it's, you know, it's fun. And yeah, it's great. And you know, I plan to expand this and have in person students as well once COVID is over for people that live in my area.
Okay. And that is, you said people living in your area. So that is, yeah, the audience can live in Portland, in South of Portland. So yeah, I live in Hillsborough and, you know, neighboring surrounding areas, you know, I'll be teaching in what's in my plan.
Let's say, I'm calling for New Jersey. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Maybe even here. I said, oh, yeah. Oregon. Okay.
Cool. So, so I did learn about your workshop, your attending the age group and also the duration. What kind of dance do you do specializes? Is there anything like, you know, any particular type of dance or tell me a little more about that?
Yeah. So basically Bollywood, meaning, you know, just like the kind of like hip hop style dance, you know, the latest Bollywood songs, Hindi songs, that's what I'm choreographing to, you know, I can expand that a little bit. People are wanting to learn more like English songs or something. But right now I'm teaching Bollywood.
So yeah, it's just like fast, upbeat song that you can get a good workout in like a couple of the songs, you know, maybe some people maybe familiar with if they're Indian, like I taught, you know, chamatchalo or bongaroo. So I usually teach two songs in a five-class group package. Okay. I see.
So do you have, do you have, I mean, we talked about, do you have particular days of the week or how does your classes, you know, what kind of like, do you have, it's like on a particular day, so you have all the five days. I don't know how the dance sessions work. Can you explain about that, please? Yeah, sure.
So I am, you know, pretty flexible as long as, you know, I'm free. I do prefer a weekdays so that, you know, I'm more free on the weekend, but I'm also, you know, ready to have classes on the weekends. I had, I had at a point in time for a couple weeks. So just whatever is convenient for everyone because we're all the different time zones.
I'm in the West Coast, you know, people are in the East Coast and even central, you know, taking classes from me. So I try to be flexible right now. I have one class on Monday and two class on Friday that I think. Okay.
Okay. Great. So tell me about your next workshop because I know I saw the, I saw your flyer and that's how, you know, we met and you, you know, you said that you listened to my podcast and you were, you know, very impressed. And then I said, okay, why don't you be my guest?
So tell me a little more about your workshop so that they can, you know, where can they find you your website URL so that they can, I think your free workshop and yeah. Do that please. Yeah. So basically, if people go to my website, the answer pre.com and this is for this workshop is for guys and girls ages 12 and above.
So they can just register. It's free. You have to put your contact information, name, email, phone number, if you like, and then I get, I get an email and I will email you this link. So that's all you need to, you know, you just need to zoom in a link to access and you know, I can help you on March 13th.
And the class, I'm basically going to go through all the steps without the song first. And then once everyone learns it, I'll play the songs a couple of times and you know, we can have fun and dance with the music. So your workshop participant will walk away. We'll dance with one dance.
After learning one dance, right? Yeah. We'll go with the book. Yeah.
One song for one song. They have a complete, they would have learned the dance for one complete song. Right after the end of the workshop? Yes.
Yes. One. Okay. So I need two things.
Again, one is, can you please spell out the entire URL? And number two, at what time is the workshop? Yeah. So the entire URL is www.d-a-n-t-e-w-i-p-r-i.com.
So dance with free.com. The workshop starts at 11 a.m. Pacific time, which is 1 p.m. Central and 2 p.m.
Eastern time. And it's for duration of 30 minutes. So hopefully you are there. It'll be a lot of fun.
Thank you. And what about any place, once again, mention the age group who can participate in the free workshop? Yeah, for ages 12 and above. Okay.
Okay. Perfect. So thank you so much, Priya. This was nice of you.
And I did get the invite. I'm kind of excited, but at the same time I'm scared. I don't know. You should go out.
My mom is planning to attend the crowd. And it'll be great fun. I'm really excited for you. And once again, thank you for being my guest.
And I will talk to you soon. And you have a fantastic night. Thank you. Okay.
Bye.
