Darkside (born Kevin Anderson) was raised in the streets of Baltimore City. Born amongst four other siblings, Darkside developed a love for music at the age of 2. Being of Jamaican decent, music was in his blood. “Ever since he could walk and talk, you would see him hanging around his father a lot”, said his mother. “He would watch him spin records on his 12 technique turntables. From that moment, we knew music was his road to success”. Darksides’ father was a “disc jockey”. So when he noticed his sons’ desire to learn, he became his mentor. At the age of 8, his father began to teach him the basics. With the seed planted, Darkside wanted to become one of the youngest DJ’s to ever set foot in Baltimore City. By 10 years of age, he knew how to turn on his father’s entire music system from beginning to end in sequence. “I remember the summer of ’96”, Darkside said. My dad and I rode to Home Depot to purchase plywood, wood glue, nails, and a bunch of other things.
