Interview with the Creators of Savage the Musical

from The Stage Door Show · host Dave Hondel

Listen as Dave Hondel interviews the Creators of Savage, the Musical. Dave is joined by Co-Writer, Lyricist and Co-Composer, Nicolette Blount and Co-Writer, Lindel Hart. We discuss the making of the musical which is based on the true story of Nicolette's great grandmother. Savage the Musical is a dramatic musical inspired by the true story of 1920s Chickasaw Native American sharpshooter and silent film actress, Wanda Savage. Savage is a powerful story of redemption about a divorced, single, indigenous mother who fought racism, sexism and abuse to make a name for herself, but at the heart of the story is a mother and her son. This rebel heart fulfilled her dreams in a time when women were just starting to have a voice. Wanda was a renegade performer who shot her way through circuses, Vaudeville, and Hollywood before landing in a Wyoming brothel. Her thirst for fame came at a heavy price, losing the one she loved most. Savage is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago and holds up a mirror to our society to see how far we have come...or not. Savage is told through catchy, pop influenced jazz music with some bluesy funk.
