The Six Shooter - Single Episodes Old Time Radio Researchers Group THE SIX SHOOTERThe Six Shooter brought James Stewart to the NBC microphone on September 20, 1953, in a fine series of folksy Western adventures.Stewart was never better on the air than in this drama of Britt Ponset, frontier drifter created by Frank Burt. The epigraph set it up nicely: "The man in the saddle is angular and long-legged: his skin is sun dyed brown. The gun in his holster is gray steel and rainbow mother-of-pearl. People call them both The Six Shooter." Ponset was a wanderer, an easy-going gentleman and -- when he had to be -- a gunfighter.Stewart was right in character as the slow-talking maverick who usually blundered into other people's troubles and sometimes shot his way out. His experiences were broad, but The Six Shooter leaned more to comedy than other shows of its kind. Ponset took time out to play Hamlet with a crude road company. The stories were first written for Pearson's Magazine (by Hesketh Vernon Prichard and his mother, under the pseudonyms "H. Heron" and "E. Margret Kendall returned home, to her loving and equally beloved mother's arms after 4 years in the slums of New York City- where she endured unimaginable hardships. This hardship made the naturally brilliant nine-years-old strong, resourceful, and full of questions which her mother finds it hard to answer. But this is not the end of the problems she would have to face. Those will include her mother's intended marriage, her need to get along with her stepfather's people, and her ever present worry about her poor friends from New York who were there for her in her darkest moments. This book is ful of twists and turns, but you can hang on to the sub-title "How Margaret Solved Her Problems", and feel more of it's magic. You may think this is a dark book. Yes, it has it's dark parts. But it is also humorous, beautifully written and uplifting.Note that the prequel to this book, Cross Currents, is also available as an audiobook from the LibriVox catalog (Summary by Where is Joleen?
