First and second Peter differ as two sides of a coin, but should be taught together. If you expect opposition, you are better prepared to stand against opposition. 1 Peter addresses life today with Christian living with exortation. 2 Peter moves to warn of the end of all things. It is easy to distract us or disuade us from what we already know. Peter gives reminders after reminders, but warns to not discard the reminders as something you already knew. Peter warns you not to think you cannot be moved and fall. Peter will look into recognizing and using the Scriptures. In verse 1, Peter describes himself as a bondservant who chose to remain a servant. Our response to God should be: It is my duty to serve You, but also my choice to serve You. It is a chosen path, not a forced one. Our service is not an exterior forced duty, but an interior chosen duty. Why would someone made free choose to serve? You served the people who conquered you? Yes (Daniel). You have the same precious faith that I (Peter -the rock) have which is founded upon the Rock (Jesus).
