Intro To Scripture Part 2

On Real Living, Lavinia Spirito and Mary Lou Nemecek encourage listeners to join a Bible study, such as Catholic Way Bible Study (CWBS.org), in person when possible or via Zoom, and stress that engaging Scripture can change one’s life and even inspire new “daughter” studies. They explain Scripture as God’s written revelation within a broader progressive revelation: first known through nature, then through God’s choice of Israel, oral sacred tradition, Christ’s coming, the Gospels, and ongoing doctrinal development through the Church’s councils, while affirming public revelation is now complete. They define exegesis as deep study that “chews” on passages so the Word continually speaks anew and unites head and heart, revealing a personal God who comforts, convicts, and gives life purpose. They contrast Catholic belief with sola scriptura, presenting the deposit of faith as resting on Scripture, oral sacred tradition, and the Church’s magisterium, and preview a future discussion on how the biblical canon was formed by the Church.
