Introduction & Psalm 1Psalms • Week 1May 9, 2021 • Adam Barnett -- Steven Lawson “The Psalms have been a bedrock of comfort and a tower of strength for believers in every experience of life. From the soul-stirring heights of praise to the heart-rending depths of despair, the full range of human emotion is captured in these magnificent anthems.”  The γυμναζω Challengeγυμναζω is to train with one’s full effort.Psalm 1:1-6 NIV Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. The godly do not WALK in the counsel of the wicked.  The godly do not STAND in the way of sinners. The godly do not SIT in the company of mockers.Psalms 1:2-3 NIVbut whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. The book of Psalms is a collection of powerful prayers, songs, and praises. It begins with a call to delight ourselves in God's law—His instruction. And it shows the divergent path we can take if we don't heed this call. Adam Barnett opens our summer-long study of Psalms by exploring these two possible directions of our lives and challenging us to seek that delight in God's word this summer.
