Introduction to Consensus (Part II) with Andrew Lewis-Pye | a16z crypto research talks

Part II of an introduction to the basics of consensus, the protocol to coordinate and maintain a decentralized blockchain. Andrew Lewis-Pye (London School of Economics) reviews the basics of consensus from Part I, and introduces state machine replication (SMR) -- the problem that blockchain protocols are designed to solve -- and demonstrates how to reduce Byzantine agreement to SMR in a partially synchronous setting. Andy and also evaluates the widely used Tendermint protocol. About the speaker Andy is a Professor at the London School of Economics. He has worked in various fields, including mathematical logic, network science, population genetics, and blockchain.
