Investigations continuing after plane traveling from Sligo crashes in Waterford

It's believed that the individual who was killed in a plane crash in Waterford was not a Sligo native. The plane left Sligo yesterday morning destined for France but turned back to make an emergency landing at Waterford. Investigations are ongoing.  It's understood that the light aircraft had been stored at Sligo Airport for the last number of months and was picked up yesterday morning. The single engine aircraft with one person on board left Sligo at around 11.25am yesterday bound for France. The collision then happened at around 10 to 1 yesterday afternoon near Tramore which is at the back of Waterford airport. The emergency services were alerted and quickly on the scene. Waterford City and County Fire Services, paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí have all attended the scene. The Air Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport is continuing an investigation into the incident with the emergency services and the Irish Aviation Authority. Waterford Sinn Féin councillor Jim Griffin happened to travel through the area minutes after it happened:
