Investing in Foreign Real Estate: Buying a Vacation Rental

Lisa Godfrey-Hayes had a passion for travel, even though she had never left Alabama.  Some of her medical industry colleagues worked in Saudi Arabia. She decided to apply, and was hired. She found herself leaving the country for the very first time - to work abroad on a two year contract.  Afterward, her budding itch to travel was in full bloom.  Lisa heard about Isla Mujeres, Mexico on a " Beach Bargains" tv show and knew she had to go check it out. After visiting numerous times - with trips to other locations sprinkled in - she rented an apartment for a year.  Still working and living in the US, Lisa traveled as often as she could, renting the apartment to friends and others when she wasn't there. It was a great "beta test" before taking the plunge and buying her own oceanfront condo.
