Iowa State’s New Era Begins

Iowa State basketball is bracing for change but staying dangerous under T.J. Otzelberger, as key scorers like Milan Momcilovic and others depart, yet five new transfers are poised to step in immediately. Despite early-season underestimation — ranked 23rd by The Athletic — the Cyclones’ defensive identity remains intact, led by Jaquan Johnson at point guard and Leon Bond III filling the void left by Nate Heise. Taj Manning adds grit in the frontcourt alongside returning stars, giving Otzelberger flexibility. While replacing Momcilovic’s impact won’t be easy, this roster’s depth and the program’s history of surprises suggest another NCAA tournament run is not only possible — it’s likely.
