Iowa Weather March 5 Morning - Special Weather Statement

from The Iowa Weather Podcast

Good morning. Iowa. I'm Aaron Jolly. That fog wrapping around your windshield? It's dense. Visibility down to a quarter mile or less across southern and eastern Iowa. Give yourself extra time this morning. The sun will burn it off by mid-morning. In the next 24 hours. Right now you're sitting at 43 degrees. But this afternoon? You'll hit the upper 50s to low 60s statewide. Western Iowa peaks at 62. Central Iowa reaches 61. The Quad Cities and eastern areas top out around 57. That's 26 degrees to 26 degrees warmer than normal for early March. Because tonight flips the script. Thunderstorms roll in after midnight. We're talking a 90 percent chance of rain and storms between 1 and 5 A.M., sweeping west to east. Some could pack hail. Not the night to leave your car outside if you can help it. Friday gets wild. Temperatures surge into the low 70s — near record territory. The Quad Cities could hit 74 degrees. But that warmth comes with a price. A cold front barrels through Friday afternoon and evening, triggering another round of storms. A few could be severe. Keep your weather radio charged. The weekend brings relief. Saturday cools to the low 50s with clearing skies. Sunday warms back to the mid-60s under sunshine. Monday climbs near 70 degrees again. Tuesday into Wednesday brings another system with rain and temperatures dropping back into the 40s. Fun fact. Tonight's full moon will be shining through those approaching clouds. And the spring equinox is just two weeks out. If you found this helpful, a quick rating really helps us out. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
