ipt ep #61 Jon Acuff

from infinite pie connection podcast · host Alan Fawcett

In todays episode I am talking with New York Times Best selling author Jon Acuff.  Jon has written four books including his most recent "Start: Punch fear in the Face, Escape Average & Do Work That Matters".  With a title like that it was certain to make my reading list.  Jon and I talk about the pivotal moments and people who have impacted his life, how to find quality information in unusual places, the true meaning of being authentic and how to ask the right questions.  We talk about what it takes to write a book, to connect with others and what it means to live your best life. Oh and of course there are some interesting attempts at the British accent. I was first introduced to Jon's most recent book, way back in episode #19 by Pete Williams.  However Pete suggested that he really enjoyed the audio version of the book because of Jon's delivery style as he narrated it.  Having benefitted from following Pete's advice in the past, I soon downloaded the book and was not disappointed.  I have to agree with Pete that both the content and the way Jon delivers it are fantastic, and seem to come at exactly the right time for me.  A time when I was ready for the lessons that I found in Jon's words.  Funny how that happens. Through our conversation, you will come to appreciate the hard work and effort that Jon Acuff puts into his writing. From observation of his surroundings and finding inspiration and creativity in unusual places, it helps to view the world from a different perspective. Jon acknowledges the support that he has been given, the challenges and prompting he has been provided to ensure that he keeps pushing himself to create great work. It is easy to fall into the routine of just doing "stuff".  Just doing enough to get through or get by.  My conversation with Jon Acuff certainly inspired me to focus on what is important and what I can do to awesome work and do stuff that matters.  What about you? Take a listen and let me know what you think.
