Ireland's President Visits Scotland | Belfast News

Irish President Catherine Connolly kicks off a historic four-day tour of Scotland, warmly welcomed by First Minister John Swinney and his wife at Edinburgh’s official residence — a meeting that echoes their first encounter last November, when Swinney became the first foreign leader to greet her post-inauguration. Now, she’s set to explore Glasgow, Coatbridge, and even the Isle of Skye, visiting Scotland’s Gaelic cultural hub and connecting with Irish communities across the border. Swinney hailed the visit as a powerful symbol of enduring ties, pledging to deepen cooperation on peace, equality, and global solidarity — all underpinned by a renewed bilateral framework. Her whirlwind schedule also includes recent stops in London, Leeds, Northern Ireland, Wales, and a surprise tête-à-tête with U.S. President Trump, underscoring Ireland’s dynamic diplomatic momentum.
