Ironing
from The Joanne Avison Podcast · host Joanne Avison
I had a goofy moment admitting how much I don't iron, unless I really really have to! In Structural bodywork, the client often says they feel "ironed" - but in truth, the fascia in our bodies is actually crimped (like it's sort of pleated). It is supposed to be! It makes sense if you think about it; to allow nerves and vessels to move through without being too damaged when we move and change position. So when we think we are stretching, we are really opening out the pleats; not lengthening the tissues. We will talk about the dangers of stretching (if you really want to understand fascia) another episode - but here we just take a look at what ironing has to do with it!!
