She earned her doctorate in Quantitative Methods in Education at UC Berkeley and her postdoctoral fellowship was at the Psychometric Laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her recent work has focused on test validity and fairness and she wrote the 2017 book Who Gets In? Strategies for Fair and Effective College Admissions.
