Is Ending My Life The Only Way Out? w/ April, ex-Scientology - S3E15pt2

from IndoctriNation · host IndoctriNation

Body language and speech are the tools we need to use to express nuanced feelings. But in Scientology and other groups like it, those who express sadness, grief, or doubt are labeled as strictly negative or troubled and treated as outliers for unsuccessfully suppressing their natural emotions. April returns for part two of her episode; opening up about her brother who is still living in a fog of Scientology, as well as her own experience with suicidal thoughts while in the group. When she began to reveal that she was unhappy in the group, instead of receiving help or compassion she was ostracized from her friends and group settings to the point of being kicked out. The Sea Organization prevents the young members in its guardianship from seeking outside help. Psychiatry, therapy, and medication are heavily demonized in this realm where many are in need of more information and support rather than mistreatment and interrogation.
