Is FIFA for Sale? The FFE Controversy

from Bar None · host BFM Media

World football governing body FIFA dropped a bombshell earlier this week, announcing the creation of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a new commercial subsidiary that will manage the rights to the World Cup and the Club World Cup. FIFA president Gianni Infantino plans to sell a 20–30% stake to private investors, with Thrive Capital, led by Joshua Kushner, among the key investors. This has caused widespread uproar among football fans, confederations and other stakeholders, who argue that football should not be treated as a commodity to be sold to private investors. UEFA has since announced plans to boycott future FIFA tournaments, with CONCACAF also rejecting the proposal. We unpack FIFA's bold plan, the furore it has created, and whether it will truly materialise.Image Credit: Taljat David / Shutterstock.com
