As India celebrates its 80th Independence Day, we ask a very different independence question: is it cool to be Indian abroad today? If so, when did India become cool, and what changed?   There was a time when being Indian abroad could mean trying to fit in, changing an accent, hiding your spirituality or keeping parts of your identity firmly at home.  Today, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, Indian food, music and culture have travelled far beyond India.
