Is it Possible to Commit Spiritual Adultery? (Father Simon Says)

He notes that the idea of women being “self-controlled” (sóphronismos) in Greek) actually means being intelligent and wise: having a sound mind and good judgment. The text isn’t saying women should be under strict control but encouraging them to be partners who are wise, organized, and thoughtful in running the household. It’s about teamwork in marriage: not some one-sided control fest!   Women: “Submit” to Your Own Husbands    Fr. Simon clarifies that “submit” in the Bible often just means to respect and honor one’s own spouse, not any and every man. St. Paul wasn’t telling women to be doormats; he was saying support your own husband so that he can step into his God-given role as a shepherd of the family.   Avoiding Spiritual Adultery 💔   Father Simon warns against letting admiration for a pastor or a friend’s spirituality turn into dissatisfaction with your own spouse. Comparing your husband to a “holy pastor” or imagining a “spiritual hero” isn’t just unrealistic; it’s a form of unfaithfulness. Instead, try encouraging your husband to grow spiritually at his own pace: gently nudging him by asking questions, inviting him into faith discussions, and, yes, even calling him “smart.” (He’ll love that.)   Marriage in God’s Plan = Best Friends 💍   Marriage isn’t just about cooking, cleaning, and getting by: God designed it for intimacy, friendship, and mutual support. In the ancient world, people didn’t think of spouses as best friends, but Paul’s vision was radical: Husbands, love your wives. Wives, respect your husbands.   If your spouse isn’t your closest friend? Well, Father says to "work on it." Stop fantasizing about what could be and start building what God intends right here, right now in your own marriage. Fr.
