Is It Worth It?

from Practicing Hope · host Chuck Musselwhite

Just because something is allowed doesn't mean it's good for you. Paul makes this clear in 1 Corinthians 10:23, reminding us that not everything permissible is beneficial or builds us up. Too often, Christians settle for asking whether something is technically legal rather than whether it is genuinely helpful for their walk with God. Our habits and choices carry real costs, affecting our spiritual clarity, our relationships, and our influence on others. Self-denial is not about willpower alone. It requires leaning on God and being honest about what is and isn't drawing us closer to Him. We are also called to consider how our freedom affects those around us, especially those who are newer or weaker in their faith. The standard for our decisions should be the biblical standard, not culture, convenience, or what we can technically get away with.
