Lois Herrera, an accomplished former executive at the Department of Education in NYC, was at the center of a discrimination lawsuit against the agency. Herrara, who had had a master's degree from Harvard, was abruptly demoted and replaced by person of color with a GED. She later settled with courts for $700,000.
