In Episode 66, expert Peter Zalewski of Condo Vultures interviews Kobi Karp - founder and president of Kobi Karp Architecture And Interior Design - about the short- and long-term future of architecture and real estate development in South Florida and the world as a result of the lifestyle and economic changes occurring in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Segment 1, Karp discusses relocating from Israel to Minnesota as a child before settling down in Miami some 30 years ago. Karp reflects on growing up in Minneapolis, attending the University of Minnesota for architecture school and running in the same social circles as the late musician formerly known as Prince. Karp, who came to South Florida to work for a U.K.-based firm designing properties in the Caribbean, would go on to become one of the most active and connected architects in South Florida. In Segment 2, Karp talks about how architecture has changed in South Florida, marking the evolution with three different properties that he worked on in the last 20 years, ranging from the complete overhaul of an existing oceanfront structure that would become the One Hotel & Homes in Miami Beach, the redevelopment of the famed Surf Club into a Four Seasons property in Surfside and the design of the new condo tower Monad Terrace in South Beach that is being marketed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. In Segment 3, Karp discusses the state of Miami's real estate development market, the design changes that are inevitable as a result of the pandemic and how this time may be one day be viewed as a turning point for South Florida architecture.
