Is Ohio State Football Recession-Proof: Can They Fall Off? | Ohio State Football 2023
from College Football with Sam · host Samuel Recker
After two losses to Michigan in 2021 and 2022, the College Football world is calling Ryan Day and Ohio State football into question entering 2023. I picked Michigan to repeat as Big Ten Champions in 2023, capturing a National Title and a 15-0 record. However, that is just a preseason prediction. If the Wolverines cannot get it done nationally, my second pick would be Ohio State, who proved last season at Georgia that if they reach the College Football Playoff they are built to win it. Ryan Day once again has an uber-talented squad this season, with All-American wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr returning and 5-stars Donovan Jackson, TreVeyon Henderson, Kyle McCord, and Emeka Egbuka remaining on the roster with another preseason of training and conditioning. Defensively the program has taken a step back, but don't count out Jim Knowles and Larry Johnson just yet, as Knowles' 4-2-5 scheme is adapting to Big Ten play in year two and Ohio State returns most of their key contributors from the 2022 season. I think the 2023 Ohio State Buckeyes will be the 2nd best team in the country with an elite offense, defense, and the potential to be the No.1 team in America depending on how the staff utilizes and coaches the talent on deck. Beyond 2023, Ohio State still appears to be the Big Ten's king in recruiting (even with Michigan's No.2 recruiting class) and offensive development (even with USC joining the conference in 2024). The Buckeyes have been the most consistent program in the nation since World War II, with the nation's highest winning percentage and multiple Big Ten and National Titles to show off. I see Ohio State Football as a recession-proof program now and in the future, just as they have been in the past.
