Is simple always good in photography?

Episode 388 One of the many challenges that I think many of us face with our photographic practice is our relationship to the concepts of simple. Simple is challenging to master. Complicated is easy. It is easy to get caught up in the weeds that we miss out on much of our process. it is easy to think that something is more than it is. Yet, we can misspeak and say something is simple for simplicity or something minimal is simplistic or straightforward. I often hear people wanting to do minimalism in their work only to discover that simple doesn’t mean that it is minimal. A simplistic image isn’t a minimalist image. And, as I have discussed on another podcast, you don’t get points for doing things the hard way. In this week’s podcast, I talk about how your relationship with simple can drastically change your approach to your work behind the camera, staying organized, or enjoying your time more.
