Is This What an LDS Schism Looks Like? Faith Matters Restore Conference 2023 with Randy Bell

from Mormon.ish

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, we sit down with the wonderful Randy Bell, the Master of Disaster, to talk about the recent Faith Matters: Restore conference held in Utah.Restore was an opportunity for faithful Latter Day Saints to spend a weekend restoring their faith with music, talks, community and more. It was attended by over 3500 people and had the look and feel of an Evangelical gathering according to those who were there to observe. Randy, Rebecca, and Landon discuss the significance of this type of conference that portrays a different type of Mormonism you won't find in the pews on Sunday. We talk about what this type of gathering might mean for the church as a whole and it's future going forward. This was a very interesting conversation that also touched on the "Christianization" of Mormonism, something that seems to be unfolding very rapidly. Randy has great insights and perspectives that we were really fascinated to explore with him on this important episode. How to Donate to Mormonish Podcast:We appreciate our Mormonish viewers and listeners so much! Like a Virgin iHeartPodcasts A new pop culture podcast with a mix of news, cultural criticism, and comedy through a queer-trans lens, hosted by Fran Tirado and Rose Dommu.Though they are best friends now, Fran and Rose grew up very differently. Fran was a cult-ish, sheltered Christian camp counselor and Rose had a penchant for writing deranged fanfiction. Now they’re both godless heathens taking a look back at the formative classics that popped their cherries and made them who they are. Each week, the show starts off with a breakdown of the week’s pop culture news, then does a deep dive into one cultural object that one of them might be experiencing for the first time. They’ll also invite writers, comedians, activists, and entertainers to help them break it down. Follow @rosedommu and @fransquishco on Instagram and Twitter.
