Is Transhumanism Inevitable? ft. Joe Allen

from Restoring Order · host Patrick Casey and Joe Allen

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.patrickcasey.comJoe Allen is a writer and tech correspondent at Steve Bannon’s War Room. He joins me for a broad discussion on technology, transhumanism, and his book, Dark Aeon: Transhumanism and the War Against Humanity. To begin, Joe recounts his intellectual journey. We hear about his work at the War Room. Then we shift to the topic at hand: technology. I argue that we are in the early stages of a wildly disruptive technological wave. This leads to a discussion of futurism, transhumanism, and post-humanism – what they are, and how they differ. We then consider whether technological development is inevitable. The answer is complicated. We talk about AI 2027, a recent report from a few AI experts that predicts artificial intelligence could annihilate humanity in two years. This leads to some musings on the rationalist scene, from which AI 2027 came. In the second half of the show (available to subscribers), I ask Joe why he's so worried about transhumanism. He outlines his two main reasons, explaining that transhuman ideology can be destructive even if the technological advances it promises never come to be. We then shift gears to talk about Yuval Harari, and whether he is the evil transhumanist figure some believe him to be. Later, we consider the relationship between religion and technology. Toward the end of the show, we discuss the challenges technology presents to man, particularly the challenge of remaining human. Buy Dark Aeon Follow Joe on TwitterSubscribe to Joe’s Substack
