Isaiah 30:27-33 Judgment as Salvation (August 16, 2026 AM, Dr. Michael Grasso)
from New Covenant OPC Sermon Podcast · host New Covenant OPC
"We often think of God's judgment and God's salvation as opposites. Scripture, however, repeatedly shows that God's judgment upon the enemies of His people is part of His saving work.In Isaiah 30:27–33, the Lord comes in terrifying judgment against Assyria—and His people respond with songs, gladness, tambourines, and lyres. The destruction of the power that threatened them means their deliverance. But Isaiah's vision reaches beyond the historical fall of Assyria. The judgment of Assyria anticipates the final judgment, when Jesus Christ will return to defeat every enemy, end every persecution and injustice, and bring His people into everlasting peace. For those who belong to Christ, therefore, the final judgment is not merely a day of terror. It is the day when their salvation is brought to completion.Text: Isaiah 30:27–33Theme: Judgment on God's enemies is salvation for His people."
