Israel cried out to God to hear them with fasting in Isaiah 58, but then they didn’t want to obey Him when He told them to stop their sinful ways – oppressing their workers, putting heavy yokes upon the poor, turning a deaf ear to the pleas of the hungry and oppressed. Their half measures didn’t impress God. He is willing to restore their ruins, to give them great prosperity and abundant crops if they will listen to Him and take care of those in need.
