ISSUE: Big 12 Is FALLING APART After Cody Campbell, Brett Yormark FEUD Explodes Over Texas Tech Game

The public beef between Texas Tech mega-booster Cody Campbell and Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark escalated over reports that the Red Raiders' home matchup against Houston could be moved to a standalone Friday night broadcast window. Campbell, who serves as the Chairman of the Texas Tech Board of Regents, took to social media to heavily criticize the idea. He fiercely defended local high school traditions, famously posting that "Friday Night Lights are sacred in the Great State of Texas" and tagging the commissioner directly, adding that while Yormark isn't a native Texan, he has been around long enough to know better. Yormark did not hold back in his response, bluntly stating that "Cody Campbell does not run the Big 12." The commissioner defended the scheduling strategy, pointing out that the conference's presidents and athletic directors had previously approved moving up to 12 games off of Saturdays to maximize media exposure. According to Yormark, Friday night games in 2025 outperformed the conference's average television rating by 64%. Campbell has since doubled down on his frustration. While clarifying that he and Yormark are ultimately on good terms, he expanded on his opposition, citing the brutal travel logistics for the team coming off a late-night road trip to Oregon State and the immense strain a Friday game puts on Texas Tech's massive alumni base centered over 300 miles away in Dallas.
