It All Starts with Grace
from St Mark Sermons Hosted by St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church
The sermon reflects on the beginning of the Coptic New Year, contrasting the focus on the end times with the opportunity for a fresh start grounded in God’s grace. Using the examples of St. John the Baptist, Christ’s ministry, St. Paul, and St. Polycarp, the speaker emphasizes that the Christian life begins not with human effort but with God’s initiative, love, and mercy. The core challenge is not whether God is speaking or extending grace, but whether our hearts are responding. Rather than being motivated primarily by fear or guilt, believers are called to live out of gratitude and love in response to God’s “exceedingly abundant” grace. True obedience, repentance, generosity, and spiritual growth flow naturally from an awareness of God’s love and faithfulness. As a new year begins, the speaker encourages listeners to continually examine their motivations and to cultivate a relationship with God rooted in grace, thanksgiving, and love.
