It is More Blessed

Our Lord’s words, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” challenge our natural instincts, which tie happiness to what we hope to gain rather than to what we give. Scripture does not deny the real joy of receiving God invites us to ask and delights to bless but it declares a greater happiness found in giving. Experience confirms this truth: the most joyful and loved people are those who give themselves freely, not those who live by expectations of getting. Because God does not promise to grant every request, happiness cannot rest on receiving alone; yet the door to blessedness is never closed, for we can always give if nothing else, ourselves in the name of Christ. Thus true and lasting joy flows from sharing God’s grace with others, remembering daily the words of Jesus that giving brings the greater blessing.
