This is the best hang podcast featuring Max Gurman Shane Cunningham and I and Mike Bierman Welcome to the best hang podcast. I'm Mike. We got Max. We got Shane and we got another fresh episode for you I don't think I've ever said that before lots is going on.

We got the very very exciting rally happening at Hamilton Field This is renamed R. Kels Field at this point. It is June 21st Tickets are available. You know Shane and I will be there if you're a big pod listener You want to run into us?

I'm sure we'll be milling about it GA with a nice tall can of beer just enjoying the sweet sounds of Arkel Portugal the man Valley. We got lots of great stuff. See you go. Yeah, see go see go I get nervous about see go because I've really only read it on the poster and I was wearing my pronunciation So I just yeah go just see go see go pretty a reader and you start saying stuff out loud I remember when I was early dating Alex.

She was saying posthumously Yeah, I've had that one. Yeah, oh, there's there's a few words like that. I got stuck on a word the other day I forget what it was but is that a Remember the word is I know a big ones for me was early on in our tour days So I back when I was in San Sebastian John Popless actually was like, hey, we're the Harry Potter books I'm like now now he's like well here take book one and two and you know cuz whatever I know I want to pay for dad a backman You know like I was gonna just be scrolling my phone so I started reading Harry Potter books But for the longest time because I was late to the game I was reading like her name's Hermione, but when you read that on a page I think I was calling like Like her gimony or something in my brain I was reading it so different and then when someone finally said it like whatever four months later like I was like Oh, and that you know, it's so crazy with Harry and Ron and her gimony or something It's like what are you talking about but I've gone through like three fucking books saying the name wrong in my head. Yeah Wow inventory either.

She says invent story inventory inventory inventory Have you noticed the one that pops has been doing and our writers rooms? So when we talk about Proverbs, it's a proverb, but John keeps saying pro verb Wait, here's how I would say I saw Proverb. Is that right or wrong? I think it's wrong.

I think it's Proverb I would probably say I think I mix it up. Not that right. We're a lot, but I do think I mix it up Yeah, I would probably say Proverb, but I have said Proverb church atmosphere. I'm more likely to say pro Hmm.

Maybe he's right I brought it up in one of the things and we're like the Proverbs of Proverb, but then he's really doubled down in Proverb I realized yesterday when we're doing a read but maybe he's right. He's a man Say I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong. He was correct. He also might just be Proverbs He's like I don't know enough.

We need to use more of them. I'm pro them. I'm prover. He's just pro Proverb It's funny is to this day.

I couldn't if someone's like yeah, it's a noun. I go which one is that? Oh, it's an adjective Which one is that it's a verb which one is I can't I cannot I've written a book a book is coming out with Penguin On April 22nd, and I could not tell you what each more like an adverb, you know, it's like I just no one knows what an advert is Teachers that's it everything else was you intimidated. It's confusing.

It's hard to remember all the rules. Oh my god. It's crazy What's another one? Oh, I remember telling Danica this earlier when we're dating is people look people always say anyways They put the S on the end like anyways, let's get back to the thing anyway anyway anyway Mmm.

Well your mission like to get everyone in the world to stop saying anyways. I was you don't remember when you would correct That's so obnoxious. I apologize everyone in my friend group. You know, I was probably going through stuff You know, I don't know why I was trying to fix the world.

I get there. I get it. Okay, okay. Go ahead.

What are you to say? One more and then we'll talk about everything you mass Integral or integral who I'd say integral it's integral to the process I would say that integral integral Yeah integral actually I caught some heat the other day because I called it the Eros tour I posted this tiktok of me talking about Taylor Swift on stage at the underground in Hamilton And it was like this is my controversial opinion leaked footage of me talking on stage talking shit about Taylor Swift And I said, you know, I had some issues with the set list on the era store and I guess it's the era store Yeah, why you think you're like an ear like an ear on your head like an era. I'm in my ear now. Is it not?

All right. Oh, you've been saying that wrong your entire life matter here is my era Gives a shit. It's true who cares Yeah, but so like you said you had the book coming out you got no That you're trying that you assumed that this is gonna turn into something about me promoting me me me This next part only has a little bit to do with promoting me. Okay, our csa our csa nom for all just special That congratulations guys.

This is huge. Congratulations to all of us I mean max you ask graduation as you guys we're all we all produced this special Yeah, so for listeners yesterday We were nominated for best comedy special at the Canadian Screen Awards the csa is this is the big highest honor in our country You know if you're an American these are emmys if you're British what do they got the BAFTA? You know, like these are the this is this is the one and so it's our second year in a row being nominated We were nominated for the dessert last year for sketch show we're nominated for best comedy special this year which is Yeah, it's a huge honor and we were really excited when the news came through yesterday morning But yeah, you know, you know, like obviously it's a funny thing You know we get nominated for something like this and because it's not me for special the producers names sort of end up on it Obviously like you know, we made it happen But the thing about something like this is it doesn't happen without Such a massive massive incredibly talented team, you know, I mean like I'm not gonna do a speech here But like Mark Myers directed the shit out of it Bobby light credible fucking cinematographer the cast is incredible You know, Jillingsmart Bella Campbell who also wrote on it the writers a Domo Jillian Bella of course Shane John myself Yeah, it's like it's so much stuff has to come together wardrobe props and all those people don't get to have their name on the Like the list of producers when the award is sort of when you're nominated for the award But none of that happens and the cool thing about best comedy special is everybody sort of gets to be a part of it because it's the sum Of all of these amazing parts even though only certain names end up on there So it's a shame, but yeah, everybody's incredible And it's kind of awesome that this little special that was sort of you know The little special that could that was sort of made for not very much money labor love is now nominated for the highest honor in our country That sounded like an accepted speech to me Mike. Well Martin so I don't think we're gonna have to make one so we're shopping here I was I was thinking about it because you know, we're posting all every post on our Instagram and all that I did think about the larger ship and You know all the pieces and everything and everyone is a part of the collective Something off the dome that doesn't sound like it's off the dome But it is up the dome I think you're the person to do that Mike and I think that was well said and needed to be said because I was When I saw people posting and there was one thing that listed the name So I was like I don't know if I can post the names because it doesn't feel Accurate just because the team is so big and I didn't get in this like exclusionary pocket where you don't want to be that person to even highlight anything So yeah, well said and I think needed to be said yes And also fucking you know if you've seen the special you've heard the song written and performed by Max Kerman like it's like the sum of the parts I mean, we're just we're the luckiest it's just an all-star team like sort of top to bottom across the board So, you know that it really is a nomination for everybody I hope that everybody feels it cuz I was super grateful a lot of people want wrong by the way Max is there any way to release that because people Ask me YouTube comments.

How do I get that and so what is that? Well, I texted mark Myers I said send me the end credits I want to post it on our calls IG as to celebrate, you know the nomination and he didn't text he said he said he'd send it yesterday And he didn't so when I get it from him Bob posted. Oh nice. Okay, that's your question I don't know.

I don't know we'll ask Ash if she's got opinions on that I do wish we had that song up on like so it's available on the Instagram so you could post it with images and shit. Yeah, use this sound make it trending You know make that sound trend, you know Do you feel like you were robbed at all Max because that was it obviously deserved to be that's oh, oh, yeah I didn't even think of that to be honest for some reason I thought I was nominated I think it's fun. It's just like who's doing better and I don't know because I'm not watching everything I don't have that that time and maybe you don't deserve a nominee, but I would think I see Max Kerman there I'm giving that song another listen. Yeah, right you think so I don't know why whatever doesn't matter what we're gonna win this one.

I think I think I think so I don't know where I think we're do may Martins on a bit of a tale, you know people love me Martin They are including my wife Danica loves me Martin has been to a bunch of live shows including Including some may stand up live pod and may's got a record over now It's actually pretty good and plays it around the house. It reminds me a lot of like coconut records by Jason Swartzman Oh, yeah, it's like it's like just like in execution and the fact that it's the sort of side thing for a someone that does something other stuff Acting comedian comedy and stuff, but also the vibe is very like but it's a good record And you know when we came on this pod I was literally humming something by Georgia by the Beatles and actually go new song New melody I'm like no obviously to be also. I don't know any new music The only way new music gets kind of into my my ear is through Danica actually is playing it around the house But yeah, I like the main record. I mean I may perform the record in LA when we were recording down there I was I was jogging in the morning before the studio and I ran into my old friend Wes who plays in the darcy's J And Wes did you know this guy's right?

Yeah, I'm at West at the June O's We're like Instagram pals, but only from that time that you guys were nominated for the one that Shane and Mark directed That's right. Okay, so they they're old pals and they produce maze record and our in maze band. Yes, so that's cool Small world. Yes, but anyway, so Shane had put in our little chat like, you know Who's Danica gonna root for may or us to win in this category?

And I was like, oh she already left for work I wasn't able to ask her but I did end up asking her when she got home from the office last night It was it was us. She's directly tied to our fortunes. So she's got a root for us You know she's on to come to the award show now that may is going to be there Yeah, she was like into coming to the show. I mean they hosted last year So that would have been the one but then I don't know I think our award is actually a weird time So I think the steam might have gone out of the idea of us getting all dressed up and go but it's not gonna be They will be there and yes, like we might be sitting next to me We could in like a pure situation like Dan's seen me right do the live pod and perform.

But yeah, it's like oh We could be in the same row. I don't know. I told him like let's do the damn thing Let's get a fancy dress. Let's fucking do it is Dallas.

I want to go to yours. Um, I think just five check Like what is this cuz I don't think we're going on a night where it's the potty party, right? Maybe if Danica goes, maybe but I don't know I don't know if I just yeah if I give one piece of advice though is I Have one I have one reoccurring regret like lately because this person comes up on my feet and in the world all the time But I remember like I think it's like two or three junos ago I was sitting right next to tape McCrae at the Gallaud dinner And it was just before tape like really got it. She was she's already very famous, but and in the time I'm sitting at the table.

This is like an Edmonton. I know 2023 20 And I go I should probably go say hi. Why wouldn't I go say hi? You know cuz I liked her songs or whatever and I was like I'm not gonna say hi to him You know and now I see tape McCrae she's on an SNL.

I could have had her number we could have been friends I mean I'm not romantic kind of way I'm just like it was just like I should have just said hi I should have just said something whatever anyway, and now I didn't do that and I don't know She's going any Juno Gallaud dinner anytime soon. So anyway, so my advice my advice to Danica is come to the party say hi to me They might be friends for life, you know 100% 100% and that is so funny that you have that thought that you I should have done that well team is literally like everywhere. I mean she's one of the biggest popsers in the world right now She's not as an oh, it's crazy. Yeah, speaking of comedic performances I want to just give a shout out to this amazing play I saw the other night local coffee shop near my house morning parade I go there most mornings and They announced that they were gonna be hosting this play in the evenings the cop shop was at six the play starts at seven 30's kind of string and then I read an article this theater production company called outside the March Got this big $500 grant from the Western foundation to put on these productions in unusual spaces I was like okay cool, you know, but the place is only big enough for like 30 people at a time It's like it's a very small cop shop.

I was kind of an interesting idea I also as a restaurant owner I love the idea of space being used on off hours because it's so hard to like make the money work whenever you're running any sort of Hospitality business. That's great. You know the cops shops open from 7 a.m. 6 p.m.

And the evenings used for something else amazing anyway I heard from my parents friend Leslie that the play was great like and bless it goes to lots of plays and is a pretty tough critic So I was trying to get tickets the show sold out idea I'm saying if there's any extra tickets like kicking around anybody cancels let me know and I got three tickets So I went two nights ago I knew nothing about it the play is called performance review and it opens with this woman her name is Rosamind small who Who wrote it as well and for the next 75 minutes? It was like the some like the best storytelling and performance and comedy But also kind of heart-wrenching like throughout that I've like ever seen and I know it's like the context of the play Being like in my neighborhood coffee shop and she's talking about things that are like kind of Toronto centric that would like appeal to me but it really reminded me of like the experience that you that like people would have had seeing No, I believe I know flea back flea back because that was a one woman show Who's that by getting what's her name? She said great waller bridge feet people all rich I imagine like that experience of like going to see an amazing play at the fringe festival in Edinburgh and seeing Thee B. Waller bridge up there like tell the story of her life and ups and downs and being really funny about it But just really sharp and I was just sort of like so taking 75 minutes with just this one person on stage the entire time And and there was like really interesting and subtle production moments I'm not giving too much away here because I hope the play comes back, but it's done.

Yeah, I'm gonna see if there's I hope They can do more shows But anyway, I'm not getting away anything in that but they did a bunch of little lighting effects and audio effects in the space that really kind of like teleported you into an entirely different universe And it was so cool to be in a place that I go to every day and then you just see like in the light of day and then be sitting in the Same spot, but because like you've been greeted at the door and you've been taken to your seat That's reserved for you. And there's like a menu where you can like order coffee service It's so funny. They just serve coffee there But when you say would you like the coffee service just adding the word service after the word coffee and drinking it after 7 p.m Just like brought you to another place and The coolest part is actually one part of the show she called herself a try-hard and I thought she looked at me But I don't think that like she could have known that I was there or written a book called try-hard That's a really interesting and then at the end the play again Not giving away anything she talked about how she wrote this play on the streetcar going to work on the Dundas streetcar right outside The coffee shop going to work and also she come into this very coffee shop And she pointed at the table in the corner and she and I just wrote at that table right there And that's the table where I wrote try-hard well the same table and I go I've never seen this person here And so after the show I went up to Rosemary and I asked what time of day are you here? She's like oh, I don't come here till like two or three in the afternoon I go oh because I said at that table at eight a.m.

Like eight to ten And it's just kind of cool. Wow like a connection, you know that you have with this other creative person who's made this amazing thing I just wish her so much success because she's somebody who's been like working on it very long I think she might have been a writer on tall boys actually I think I saw that on her on her on her Her name is Roseman small very cool, and you can you can find her on Instagram But it's just I was just like so so impressed because as we know it's like you know with with with any kind of art But especially theater there's like there's some really good theater There's a lot of like not so great theater, you know and and you know if you go to enough it you can really sort of discern What is of what caliber and I feel like I'm going a lot more plays and musicals lately And I just think that like I was like held by her for 75 minutes in a way that is is not very common Shout out to rosman small because it's like so fucking impressive. You could do a play about that table Just all the people who sit there huh things like the different walks of life. Oh, that's a good idea That's a great idea for it.

You know to that point They're saying it really going this is the thing about consuming great art is that it just makes you want to make art It just makes you like leaving that play I go. Oh my god I like this is so inspiring not like for our kels like I'm coming things like how do stuff in different spaces How do you like tell a different kind of story and you know our girls are working all this new music? And I just like very inspired to like continue to kind of reinvent ourselves But like I don't know if I would have gotten that much going to like a show at the horseshoe because I've seen like indie rock bands Play the horseshoe, but like I want to see that and go okay How can we take from there? It just made me want to make stuff It was yeah, and it made me also the other thing too It made me want to memorize lines and I'm so bad at memorizing lines, but she did she memorized 75 straight minutes of her own words Which is so yeah, you remember I'm surprised so many songs you're on stage I'm in awe when I see like a musician really no two hours worth of material and it's all in their mind It's like how does that work so really?

I feel like it doesn't count or something to me That's interesting. But is okay. Is it about like a coffee a person works at a coffee shop like I am the lowly coffee shop? Her life from like age 18 to 30 and the different jobs She's had and the different things that happen to her in each one of those jobs and those experiences and like so the coffee shop isn't always a Coffee shop sometimes will be like a McDonald Yeah, well the first thing actually opens she because in her life She she her first job out of high school was a second cup so it does make sense that it's in a coffee shop And then and then and then you know that's a great thing about theater is like you know There's another section where she's in England and she's like in a car traveling with somebody and you believe you're in the car with that person You know it's like in another section where you're like she's at a house party and she's with a bunch of friends There's another section where she's like in California and you're like I pull like that's that's the amazing thing about theater Is you really believe if it's done well believe that you're in those places with those people even though you're just in a coffee How does she do it is it looks like and right now I'm at a party in England Oh, and there's John in the corner I think he's thinking about this and there's Sarah over there like it Does she describe the thinking and what's happening at the party or does she do the voices of the other people no It's it's more like her POV most of the time.

Yeah, so yeah, so she's not doing like other people's voices But she's what she's thinking and what the other characters thinking or how she is mostly her own POV So it's like a lot like very sort of journal entry. Yeah, why is he doing that? Oh, is this what's really happening? Oh, I don't like that.

You know like there's a lot of yes, this or reaction to other people's but you can see it based on her description and storytelling You're there. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, that's good. That's the method.

That's very cool You know another related to maybe think of this is I'm I'm from a way another Canadian production like I just went to that Did I know that story no oh god? I just was there. Oh, well, that's not good. Oh, well first of all max I love the theater always have it's basically years and years ago actually one of first things I ever went to that I remember my dad because he knows a huge Beatles fan when I was about 15 He brought me to this this play I think it was a theater queers Maybe even a smaller theater here in Hamilton and it was about the day that John Lennon died So a bunch of people standing outside of the Dakota on December 8th like the murders announced they all gather and it's like a But you know ten different characters outside of the Dakota or whatever And so I got like oh my 15 year old likes the Beatles I'll bring into this very sort of dark but ultimately uplifting play and you know I immediately had a crush on the girl that was like the 17 year old like sort of like wayward hippie that was outside There's nothing like the crush that you develop when you're watching someone in the theater Oh my goodness like there's nothing like falling in love with somebody on stage Katie I don't remember anything else but I read the playbill and I was like man She was so talented and all this stuff, but I've always loved sort of theater since my dad brought me to that cool and weird play But anyway, so years later I sort of got back into it because I think Danica randomly brought me to Jersey boys And I was like shit I'm like my dad would love Jersey boys So I returned to favor brought my dad and my brother and then it kind of became me and my dad and my brother's thing We saw like backbeat the Beatles one we saw the Janice Joplin Then we just saw all these plays about these musicians and all this stuff and one of the things that we got him for Christmas was What's that one book of Mormon?

But then he passed away before we could bring him so we ended up sort of going in his honor We brought Dan Hamilton instead and got annihilated. It was a very very fun. It was like the best fucking night Yes, perfect perfect show to get nice and toasty to but any honor of Roy boy, but anyway long story long Me and Danica been trying to see come from away forever like back when we lived at the Rosemont in Toronto We bought tickets when no one was like I don't know like maybe it's six months a year But we only got six so we couldn't go so we gave it tickets to Danica sister And then so we're like hey, let's go for like let's do something for Valentine's Day My brother and his wife Laura gonna look after the kids great I buy these come from away tickets. I buy them like the day before so I don't get the protection on them sure enough Roberta gets fucking sick just sick enough We're just like we can't stick Greg and Laura with a kid that might not go to sleep You know what I mean all this stuff so so we were like fuck it.

Let's not go Danics like well Did you get that the refundable thing? I'm like no she's like you still go. I'm like no you go She's like no no no you're more of the theater guy I'm like no, please go have a night I insist and long story long. She's like my brother was gonna go I'm gonna do a date and I'm gonna do another not doing the kids And then I was like who else in Toronto would want to see come from what I assume actually you've seen everything So I didn't even try you I was I tried Dan Hamilton and then eventually I get to my good friend our good friend Chris Wong Who has directed in our Kels video who worked with me and Shane back in the much days incredible director And he ended up being my Valentine's day to come from away And that was just a damn fun night and we you know it was a great night So but anyway that was a very long way of saying I recently suck on from away So what I want to say but come from away Well a couple things about coverway is I have a problem my family has a personal connection to this New school to ever take the story of a company we're involved in the terrorist attack on Nine-eleven Ron he fell astray from the family I gotta put the name here Don't come from ways this amazing Canadian production all about how 9-eleven the Terracex happened but all the planes in the air still needed somewhere to land because they could not nobody wanted to Land or where they could not go to New York City obviously because everything happening other American cities were like we're not taking planes So like thousands and thousands of people I believe it was got or was eleven hundred I can't what the number is but got diverted to the small town of the name of the town in East Coast Oh gander gander gander New Finland and and it's basically about how this town brought everybody in and opened their arms We're very Canadian about the whole thing and also the passengers being like what the fuck are we doing this town?

Where are we like if why are we here? What's going on with the world? What there's something happening in New York City? So it's just it unfolds in that way and it's it's yeah So your connection actually so my dad has this social worker friend named Dana Ralph And I know that Diana she was like kind of around when I was growing up and her son was a playwright who wrote a Musical that was sort of a hit in Toronto like on the Toronto like kind of fringe festival scene called my mother's lesbian Jewish Wiccan wedding and and it's a story about Diana So basically Diana came out later in life and fell in love and and this literally story But like a son and like realizing his mom is now gay and her getting married Anyway, the second play that he wrote with his wife is comfortable what so wow yeah So it's like an amazing career because you know that shows travel to world and so like you know And I talked to Dave on the phone so recently and he said that he was just like busking at in front of like The the grocery store at call at blue or in Spinaina like just like trying to write songs in the play Based on his mother was just like a song that he wrote about it that he like bust outside with and then they turned into a play They're musical but anyway the reason why I brought this up 20 minutes ago is the way there's about 11 or 12 cast members in come away But another amazing thing that can happen in theatre is how they effortlessly change characters And you really believe them to be like on a dime.

They literally like turned their hat around That their cast though is so fucking talented so good The one guy that's like this gruff Eastcoaster who's like yeah You know you got to get the goats out of the thing and then he gets it becomes like the British guy again And just he effortlessly flips and you're just like air as well as the other mayor's like the bigger guy who's great Yeah, all of them are so versatile. She ain't have you seen it? You're not in your head. No, I'm just trying to work in a BIN LUNGEUP but I'm not going to Like yeah, but yeah that the current cast who I saw whatever was two weeks ago three weeks ago I maxed at the same thought where I was just really impressed with the versatility Which is obviously part of the trick of the the play and they really don't change the stage all that much It's like when they're on a plane They just set up a bunch of chairs when they're into horns.

They just bring out a table You know what I mean? It just that's how it goes. Well, this goes to the power of storytelling. Yeah, so I took my Matthews and nieces to come from away and they loved it And then I took them to Lion King and Lion King is a spectacle like the production of Lion King and the costumes and the lighting It's it you're watching you're like this is an expensive ass show You know what I mean?

And then I thought back to come from away where it's like the oh like everything is just a chair Like literally it's like when they're looking over like the rocks of Newfoundland on to notion They're just standing on a chair when they're on a plane the chairs are just arranged You know two by two when they're at the Tim Hortons. They're just sitting on a chair Everything's like literally the entire fucking thing is just a fucking chair. That's it. I'm exaggerating a little bit Yeah, the production designers like fuck you But then anyway, so then after the show I we were walking out after Lion King I said I said which one did you like more like did you like Lion King more or did you like come from way more?

And they all were like oh I like I like I'm from way more and you know you think that a child like you know These kids are between age of like 9 and 15 you think they'd be like more blown away by the crazy costumes and because it's like a very Kid-centric show the Lion King, but they were just like taken by the story They're just taken by like the comedy and the storytelling of come from away Which I thought was very inspiring, you know that you could just like make something with not a lot and like the show I saw the coffee shop it's like it didn't require a ton, but it's just like really perfectly done. Yeah, I You reminded me I was so when I was like I was gonna do this ticket I was I was honestly gonna bring one on I was like is this crazy for a six year old to be your first theater experience It's come from away So I looked up like is it appropriate and a lot of people were like nine and ten maybe not know how old your youngest Yeah, so they were kind of like that's the thing and I was like I'm like no and then I was gonna try and swap it for a I was like I wonder if Mervish is like I wonder if they let me swap into liking and I'll bring a liking on Saturday night But the line king is like sold out like through the fucking was it with so popular that I couldn't even do it So then that's a great by the way. I can't is great. I'm gonna go I do want to bring it I just don't I don't want I think it's running till August because I did look it up recently So I'd love to do that But yeah, I think good for six-year old Maxi liking for sure.

Oh, you know one thing actually I will say my liking though is It gets a little scary in the end of the first half because if you if you were called a movie It's like a hyena's are attacking and the music gets really dark and the voices get scary and I looked over I was sitting at my nine-year-old nephew and his jacket was over his face. Oh And he was holding his hand I held his hand and he and then after that section He was totally fine again, but it didn't remind me of being a kid and being a little like thrown off by someone scary Absolutely, absolutely. I remember we saw that there's a great move I've talked about on this podcast and to you guys whatever that one is pushing boots last wish But yeah, the antagonist like death is following pushing boots He's on his night his last life or whatever and so it's personified by this I think this wolf who was like, you know, sit down at the bar and talk to him And it's basically chasing him death is chasing him literally a metaphorically But whenever that fucking wolf would sort of show up personifying death This is when I was probably like five or four years too young, but she's like we need to leave the theater We need to leave the theater right now. We need to get out of this theater.

I need to go to the bathroom Okay, okay, okay, it was every time death would come around So yeah, the fear the fear of children great movie though I and also just to wrap this play thing our theater shows it really is in how you close It's how you start and how you close and if you send people home and spoiler if you haven't seen come from away if Finishes so strong with the music the Celtic music and then sort of the bit the audience the cast About and then they clear and then you have the band come out and they basically do this like East Coast like John or whatever you want to call it for like a last or like five and a half minute like everybody standing up in the crowd And they all feel like you're in this sort of pub in Newfoundland Newfoundland Newfoundland I was gonna bring up Newfoundland like earlier in the podcast because I think Shane calls it Newfoundland I do and we've talked about this before I think but it's Newfoundland. Yeah, Newfoundland. I was a new friend Newfoundland Newfoundland Yeah, I think I say like you shouldn't I think we're wrong. Yeah, we're wrong.

We're wrong. But anyway amazing. I go see come from away I go see lanking just go see live theater. It's it's it's magical.

Is it true? It ends with the old team six killing them? That's that's where they put all the production budget into is the guns and then that would be so fucking funny It's like after you spent like 90 minutes in small town Newfoundland like somebody comes to the front of stage It's like five years later All the characters turn into like army eyes Addressing the nation we've taken down yeah, oh some of them on your you take a Osama's body and throw it into the ocean I don't remember remember when that happened everyone's celebrating outside the White House like beat Falls and stuff This is weird. Oh, it was a different time perfect segue perfect.

Looking segue Let's talk about the text messages about the wartime text messages. Oh, you guys follow the story. How do you follow the story? No Mike you want to explain it yeah in very basic terms like so Trump Trump's like the cabinet people who's put in place There's a guy like he pegs eggs saying in those legs.

There's a heck sector is the head of the head of the CIA or something like that Very defensive defense, but anyway, even him appointing him was a very controversial thing This guy was like he's a former soldier I think but he would basically go on Fox news and he would just basically be a talking head But he's like a bro's bro good looking dude I guess he had a drinking problem in the past She don't watch but he's just a bit of like a whatever to put him as the secretary of defense was a controversial sort of decision in the first place And it's whole you know Trump's whole sort of like team is basically loyalists and people that are willing to sort of just Say we won or we say whatever they can to sort of like put them in a good light regardless of maybe the reality situation It's like like a ragtag group right like isn't the head of the FBI just a guy who's like I can't believe I'm the head of the Yes, I think it's cash tell me I can't ever say but it's just like all people that Trump saw on TV had a podcast Thought was good with loyal to Trump and basically wouldn't back down and he's like yep You get a job you get a job you get a job you want to go do that great Let's do this so he's just kind of got this ragtag group of loyalists Ron James who did the same thing and he's always credited for being loyal so sometimes it can work out but continue totally You're always comparing Trump to LeBron James and you know Time will tell if they're both the goats So yeah, anyway the big controversy here is I guess they were discussing some sort of attack or some war action or maneuver in Was it Yemen? Yeah, I mean with the against the youthies which are like a terrorist group. I guess yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah stuff that is happening I'm sure all over the world no things but they accidentally added a journalist from the Atlantic to the group chat They're using this thing called signal, which is whatever their group chat is like a WhatsApp or something But the whole thing about you know United States or any national security for any country is you got to use these like you got to use certain Communication methods that are secure that can't be hacked There's all these sort of like rules in place that can and honestly be tracked You know like I think a lot of communications when you're in the White House I think there's something in Congress where you got to be able to like re-reference any of those communications for the future if something goes wrong people be held accountable So it seems like they're using these something like signal in the first place so that you know Their actions can quickly be deleted or whatever Nothing's really on paper or messages, but somebody somehow added this journalist this journalist wrote this article and now It's the biggest scandal of this Trump White House and it's all the typical stuff is happening where they're downplaying the significance of it Other people are saying it's the greatest sort of security preach in the history of the country You know it's and so that's what that basically what it is But Shane a little more a little more context is the journalist that was added is the editor of the Atlantic and the Atlantic Up is up there with like the New York Times and the New Yorker as being like, you know the head of liberal mainstream media And so the chief of staff and Mike Waltz is a name just accidentally deleted him And so this guy's in a group chat with like 19 other people including Marco Rubio whose secretary of defense JD Vance And he's just like imagine being a group chat with 19 other people just discussing like high-level government Activity and just and just watching it all and so he took screen grabs of everything and it's funny because they're like using Like emojis like after they bombed the youthies like and it's an American flag a fire sign And there's also like the bicep and the American flag after Like when they're congratulating on how it all went. Yeah, and they're also like throwing shaded Europe They're like calling Europe a bunch of freeloaders like I don't want to bail out Europe again There's a bunch of freeloaders like I totally agree about Europe a little freeloaders.

Yeah, so it is just a shocking thing on like a hundred different levels But I guess Shane Mike if you guys ever added anybody to a group that that's I think so I wouldn't have been a nice nation so long. I would have like I would I think Shane knows you hear this because yeah, I mean the accidental text we've all been there we've all been there I've been like there's another person at Bell Media that has a name Shane Cunningham and this person has a better job than me Or maybe like a more important job than me I don't know how much they make or whatever but sometimes I'm on an email chain with them and you know I just say this is not me, but I think if I wanted to I can see a lot of juicy stuff Who knows what's on that email chain, but I just won't look at it. So yeah, I've been on the other end of that Where which you know, maybe they're like one time I glanced and it seemed like it was like some interesting stuff going on That's all you offer interesting stuff. You don't want that scary If you see it's interesting then you're you like I shouldn't be seamless when I say interesting I mean it was like technical stuff that felt like out of outside of my pay grade.

Yeah, well, I guess this There's two points. There's two sides, right? You've either added somebody randomly to it the thing They're like oh should I didn't mean to add that person They've looked you know, they've now been privy to whatever we were saying I've never done that I've never accidentally added someone to an email or a group chat and thought like oh shit Now they you know, I wish they didn't see that yeah, and I don't think I've been I don't think I've been added to one But it does remind me about this in the past when you get but dialed and you can kind of hear a conversation Yeah, I always hang up I have no interest in hearing because my biggest fear is I'm going to hear a friend talk shit about me or something And I'm like I'd rather just not know I mean it's like I don't agree You know, I like what's what I'm gonna do about that You know, unless it's something egregious like you know, I can't wait to kill Mike in his sleep or something You know, it's like I just I don't want to know I don't want to know I don't want to hear your weird fucking inside shit You're talking to a spouse like I don't want to know I don't want to know I was once included on email this I am I'm trying to think about okay. I won't say exactly this but basically a member of a high-profile musical act I Was kicked out of the band And somebody on the administrative side who was like dealing with like the fallout and like a bunch of like the Administrative logistical items that had to be taken care of in lieu of this guy being fired sort of suddenly like about airplane flights And like what to do about like certain like those kind of logistics.

I was included on the email I think you're the wrong maxer. They got rid of me. Is it please delete and I said no problem Was it was it the mopets? Yes or no?

It was the mop no the mopets break out to the mopets kick out one of the bros their family Yeah, but honestly that can be even like more toxic and I Owned some members not rips kicking them out and I think the band got a little smaller Interesting five piece or four piece and then it became like a three piece Interesting I once and I told the story on the podcast before but a long time ago where I was on vacation And then I was like emailing back home about my vacation how I met this um It's like big director and I was like oh he gives these like really weird hugs and it's kind of funny I was like making fun of the hugs And I accidentally like my brain got all screwed up and I see see the person I was talking about Oh, then I messaged the director after that and a tech the agent and this guy was you know He said he was directing a movie to think diesel and everything so I messaged his Mandarin him I go hey that was a personal email. I was sending to one back home Please do not look at that email Never I would never read an email like that. Yeah, they said he said wasn't gonna see it and the next time I saw him he didn't give me a weird hug Of course he read it a weird hug every time Weird about the hug just like a linger too long a rub of the back was I don't it might have been like in Swedish culture or something But it was like lingering weird. It was both like too soft and hung around too long Too soft and too long.

I was just having a little fun with it too I was just like this is just an interesting thing for me to experience and because I'm not and this guy was also like very young He was like 19 so I was like oh is this what like the kids are doing these weird hugs or something? I wrote it perfectly like that and didn't go any further When you guys would school dance like go back to middle school days Would you like put your like would you try to get your hands in the back pockets of your dance partner? Would you keep your hands on the hips like I feel like the more bold of the grade seven set? You know the cool guys would like you'd look at them dancing to like stairway to heaven and they'd have their hands in the back pocket of their dance partner And then you know the rest of us, you know less and more timid guys would just be holding the waist Are you kidding Mike?

Yes more timid guys would just hold away. What do you think I did in that situation like actually you personally? Yeah, I know you're like bloomer. I know that you're shy.

Did you not even dance with anybody? I hid in the washer You were like from this cool guy mentality like hey everyone dance with a chair The nerds are just hiding and terrified. That's what did you do? What did I do with Lily Yang?

I think I was a gentleman. I don't remember but yeah I think I remember kissing her on the cheek. Maybe oh wow Oh, maybe it was a kiss on the cheek or maybe I saved that for our trip to center island in the summertime Maybe I'm saving up for that, you know a romantic trip to the eternal island No, I guess we're gonna hit a big deal. One on the roller coaster.

Yeah. Yeah, max in middle school Were you like this is middle school? I'm that's why I was not high. It's 7 8 great 8.

Yeah. Yeah Were you like I need to get a girlfriend or were you like yeah, I'll just let it come to me Uh, I don't think I needed no, I don't think I was desperate in that sense. Um, I did have a hard crush on lily a then Like it just like transported to another spot. I think you got a bad bet.
