Welcome to the Tweed Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweed Trends.

It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Well, hello there and welcome back to Tweed Trends. Today is a beautiful day. Let's get started.

Hey, so yes, today is an absolutely beautiful day. It started off pretty rocky for a number of reasons. I'm going to tell you about it. Let me back up to last week.

Last week's episodes that I released were leaving the office early and National Safe Day. Well, I don't know what it was if I'm trying to fast forward through life and the coronavirus and everything else went on. But what did I do? I went and somehow skipped a week.

So those two episodes that I released last week should have actually been released this week. Yeah, I was a week ahead. Therefore, this week, yeah, I've already released the episodes for those days because I don't know why. But that's not going to stop anything here.

We're still going to put some information out. Actually, something else happened today. So I'm thinking that that happened for a reason. So I'm going to come back and talk about that in the next segment.

OK, so here's what happened this morning. Around 9.30 this morning, I got a text message from a girlfriend of mine that we used to be really close. We lived really close to each other, maybe 10, 15 minutes apart. Her family moved to about 45 minutes or an hour away from us.

And since that time, communication has pretty much fell off unless it was something that I was doing to keep it alive. And I got to the point where I was like, you know what? I can't keep chasing you down. I need you just like it seems like you need me.

So if we can't help each other's needs, then I'm going to have to fall back. Because there are other friends out there that are checking for me, that I'm letting fall through the cracks. And I can't be that kind of friend. So long story short, she sends me this text.

And in this text, it says that I see you, I hear you, and empathize with all the African-Americans out there. I'm sorry that you have to bring your baby up in a world. That is not always fair. But I want you to know I'm doing my part as a mother to raise my children to love people of every color and race.

And now I read it a couple times over. And I had issue with this. And I had to take it to my husband. I'm like, hey, is it me?

Do I have issues? Am I the problem here? Or what? Because reading this makes me feel some type of way.

And he would not let me use that as the explanation of my feelings. Because I just kept saying this makes me feel some type of way. And he's like, well, that is not an emotion. What are you feeling?

And I just had to break it down. And it's like, OK, because this text message did not come as a result of a conversation, as a result of something tangible between the two of us that I know of, that I've been made aware of. I don't know where she's coming from with this. And is it the fact that the people out in the streets are protesting?

And then there's another group of people that are looting. Is that where she's coming from with this? Is it the fact that George Floyd was killed out in the streets? Is that where this is coming from?

I don't understand where she's coming from with this. To just suddenly send me a text at 930 in the morning, basically saying, I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this kind of stuff. But I'm going to do what I can with my kids. And I guess another part of why I was feeling some type of way is that's great that you're going to raise your kids to respect other people and to love other people.

But you know what? As a steward of one of God's most precious possessions, I expect you to do that. I expect every parent out there to do that, to raise their children so that they do not view other people through a lens that is incorrect, that has been clouded and muddied somehow. I expect that.

What I want you to do is to take that same passion that you're talking about putting into your children and put that out into your circles, the people that you influence, the people that you talk to, the people that you hear what they're saying. Put that out there to them and see what you catch. What are they talking about? Because what they're talking about, that's what they're teaching their kids.

And if you are hanging out with them and your kids are hanging out with their kids, then some of that is rubbing off on yours too. And you might think that you've got the best plan or method in raising your kids, but there's still that little something in the background, this whispering in their ear, this stuff that you don't get to hear. And so like I said, I felt some type of way about it and I sent her a very long reply back. I didn't want to discourage this type of discourse.

It would be great if we could actually talk about this, to start the discourse. But so I said a lot, but then I closed it with, thank you for making the choice to reach out to me to say this. But I did say that, you know what? Put it out there in the universe too.

Don't keep it in the four walls of your home. And as far as, I mean, I think back to Rodney King. We are almost at 30 years since the whole Rodney King incident took place. And I remember that.

I was alive for that. It's not like reading in the books about civil rights and the marches and the dogs that they would stick on the people. It wasn't like reading in a book. I saw this with my eyes on television.

And granted this girl, she probably was either not born or was an infant, was very young. So she probably doesn't remember anything about Rodney King. But still, you're an adult, you're a mother and you're at this place in life now, where George Floyd isn't the first. What about all the others that took place before that?

Do I expect you to contact me every time something happens to a black person in this world? No, I don't. That's not what I'm saying. But for you to come out and say this to me, makes me feel like your eyes are just being open today.

And it's like for real though? So I don't know. Calm down. I don't know.

Am I wrong? What are your thoughts? It very well could be that I just went to bed on a bad note to then wake up to this message and find out about the whole situation with the president where, you know, he put out a call to the nation's governors, telling them to dominate the protesters by deploying their respective national guards and take back their streets. And, you know, then he goes and leads by example, Monday evening, and used force, such as actual officers and military types and tear gas to clear out the way to push people back that were gathering in a peaceful gathering.

These weren't even the looters, the anarchists out there. These were peaceful protesters that they pushed out of Lafayette Square so that he could take a walk down to St. John's Church and take a picture of himself in front of it holding a Bible. What the what?

That, oh, man, oh man, oh man. I'm telling you, in my mind, I'm thinking that Bible must have been burning his little hands. Is it in there flapping it in the air in front of that church? And I don't know.

So then I had to kind of take a step back and be like, you know what? He's old. You know, I'm not even going to try to dress up. He's old.

And he was born back in 1946 when he was a young child in a teen in those years. That's when the civil rights marches were taking place. And although they were peaceful protests, those people had the National Guard put on them. They had dogs that they would stick on them.

They had hoses that were sprayed on them. So it's kind of like, I guess he must think, I'm speculating here, but he must think that was the right way to deal with a situation like that, rather than listening to what the people are saying and say, you know what? Maybe there is a problem. Maybe we need to look at something.

So then I had to dig a little deeper. And then looking up information about his parents, well, his father, he ran into some issues back in the 50s. So this is when our president was very young. He ran into issues in the 50s because of profiteering.

And if you don't know what that is, that means taking advantage of a situation to make a profit. He gained most of his millions by building affordable housing along the East Coast after the war. So I'm like, OK, he was raised in this atmosphere. His parents were the big problem in this because they raised the child to see that from very young.

And in the 70s, his father went through issues with discrimination about the housing places that he had built. So it does not surprise me that the president is the way that he is and thinks the way that he does and acts the way that he does because he doesn't know any better. Because if he knew better, you would think that he would do better. Well, that was today's episode of Tweet Trends.

I really would love to know what you guys think about what I said. Am I wrong for how I feel? I am really, really out of place right now where I dislike the president so much more. There was a point where I did not think I could like him less than what I already did.

And I found that I could. It's amazing. But yeah, so do me a favorite. Reach out.

Hit me up on Twitter at hey, that's at heydetet. Or just look for the hashtag tweet trends. Or if you're tweeting about stuff already, just add my hashtag or at me on it so that I could see what you're saying. Because I really want to know is the problem within me because I've seen so much.

And I'm a good guy. I'm one of the good ones. And so yeah, help me out guys. Have a great evening.

And I will see you back here again, hopefully on time on Thursday.
