It's Always Walmart.
from Lock'd Up with Copville · host Copville
IT’S ALWAYS WALMART In this episode of Copville, we break down body-camera footage from the June 16, 2026, shooting inside a Walmart loss-prevention office in Anchorage, Alaska. Three officers responded to what began as a reported shoplifting call. As they attempted to take the suspect into custody, a struggle followed and the suspect allegedly fired a concealed handgun. One officer was struck twice in the lower body, while another was struck in the chest—but was protected by his ballistic plate. Officer Kaden Pohl returned fire, killing the suspect. This incident is a powerful reminder that there is no such thing as a “minor” or routine call. We examine complacency, positioning, control, communication, and the tactical warning signs officers cannot afford to overlook. We also discuss the importance of wearing your ballistic vest/body armor on every call. Nobody starts a shift knowing which shoplifting complaint, traffic stop, disturbance, or seemingly routine encounter will suddenly become deadly. In this incident, body armor made a critical difference when an officer was struck in the chest. This isn’t Monday-morning quarterbacking. It’s about learning from real encounters, so officers are better prepared for the next one. Stay alert. Stay prepared. Wear your vest. Never underestimate the call. Learn more about your ad choices.
