It's Not A Malfunction - Menopause as a portal, not a problem to fix

from The Wholesome Wave Podcast · host Emily Brewer

What if menopause isn’t something to fix — but a process of unravelling to let go of what no longer serves you? In a culture so quick to medicate, what do we miss when we don’t pause to listen to what the body is asking? Perimenopause and menopause have become huge topics of conversation — but often in a very narrow way. So much of what we hear is fear-based and focused on managing symptoms… what to take, what to do, how to make it easier, how to avoid discomfort. But what if that’s only a small part of a much bigger picture — one that includes the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of this transition? In this episode, Leila and I explore menopause through a wider lens — one that sees the body not as something failing, but as something adapting, shifting, and responding to a lifetime of experiences, patterns, and pressures. We talk about how this stage of life is influenced by the life you’ve lived up to this point and why reflecting on the past, processing unresolved experiences, and letting go of what you’ve been carrying are such an important part of the process. This isn’t about dismissing medical support — far from it. It’s about complementing it and opening up the conversation to look beyond symptom management and beginning to ask — what is this phase of life asking of us?
