It's Okay to Grieve: Processing Grief

from Embrace It All! · host Angela Adams

It's been 9 years since my dad was diagnosed with cancer and 8 years since he passed away.  I can still remember when he told me what the Dr. had found.  I was in shock.  He seemed pretty healthy, and he was so young, just 68 years old at the time.  How could this be possible?  For several days, even weeks, I was in denial.  I just couldn't believe that this was happening to him, or to our family.Grief is an interesting emotion.  We grieve because we have lost something, or someone, that we have valued or loved.  We grieve over the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of a marriage or a relationship, or the loss of our health.  We grieve when we face a major change, taking us away from  what used to be.  We may even grieve over a loved one's struggles or choices.  We will all experience grief  during our lifetime.  It is part of our human experience.   We may feel denial, anger, and  sadness as we move through the grieving process.  And as we start to accept what has happened and move forward,  we may even feel guilty, thinking that we are betraying the memory of what we lost.  During the grieving process, we feel so many emotions.  And that is 100% okay.  There is no shame or weakness in grieving.  It does not mean our faith is weak or there is something wrong with us.  When we do think we are weak, or that we have to "be strong",  we end up  resisting and avoiding  those emotions.  But when we do this, the feelings become stronger, and if we are not careful, can overwhelm us.  But when we give ourselves permission to feel all emotions while we grieve without being in a hurry, we will eventually experience peace and acceptance.  We will be able to move forward once again. For some this doesn't take long.  For others, it will.  There's no timetable when it comes to grief.  The important thing is to allow it and feel it. Grief is a process.  Don't rush it or resist it.  And if this seems difficult, I will help you.  Let's work through this together. https://coachwithangela.as.me/To connect with Angela AdamsShoot me an email:  [email protected]
