Welcome to the Tweep Trends podcast. Hey, if that's what's trending today. Hey, I'm even a gay girl and you are tuned in to Tweep Trends. It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today.
Today is National Resolution Planning Day. Let's get started. It makes sense that the day before New Year's Eve would be National Resolution Planning Day, right? Because we all know if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.
So why not? Why not take this day? Now there are some people that don't bother with resolution, so you're like, you know what? I'm just going to mess up with them anyway.
So why make them in the first place? But there are people out there that are actually into making resolutions and actually attempting to stick to it. The only problem is that approximately 80% of people who set these goals actually drop them by the second week in February. Well, when you think about it, they probably go about the planning all wrong, or they didn't plan in the first place, and therefore they were bound to fail.
We all know that if you do make resolutions and you don't stick to them, all it does is make you feel like a loser. Like, oh man, I couldn't even stick to this thing for two weeks. So here are some tips, here are some suggestions that maybe you can follow to try to make this planning day work for you and to make the coming year an awesome one. So let's start this way.
If you are making resolutions, make sure that they are meaningful. If they don't have any meaning to you, then it's pointless. Let's say your friends are trying to lose weight, and so all of them are saying, oh yeah, my New Year's resolution is to lose weight. If you know that you're happy with your size, you don't have any desire to lose weight.
Don't join the bandwagon. Don't run after everybody else and do what they are doing because it has no meaning for you, and that's going to be the first thing that falls off of the list. It's like, oh man, I didn't even do it. But if that is your plan, if you do want to lose weight, don't just say I want to lose weight.
Make sure that you're specific by giving a measurable number, something measurable. So in this case, it would be a number. I want to lose 10 pounds by Valentine's Day. Okay, so now you're being very specific.
You have a goal in mind and you have a deadline in mind as well. So then you know that when Valentine's Day gets there, if you don't lose 10 pounds, then you didn't reach the goal. However, it's not all over. You can create a new goal and then shoot for that one.
Let's say you only got five pounds in. Well, five pounds is better than nothing. So give yourself a pat on the back. Hey, you did a good job.
You didn't reach the goal you had in mind. But now let's shoot for those remaining five pounds for the next mark on the calendar. Another thing you need to do is to keep your list short. Don't go into the New Year with 50 things that you want to change about yourself because basically you want to be somebody else.
That's just, you can't do that. So give yourself maybe five, three to five things. Start there. Once you start knocking those things off of the list, then you can add other things in their place.
Just one for one. When one falls off, add another one to it. And then you can look at the end of the year and see, oh man, look at all the stuff that I did. But don't go in with a shopping list full of things that you want to do and change and become because that is another surefire way to be on the, oh my gosh, I didn't make it list.
You got to make sure that you're realistic. Okay, if you've never been to the gym ever in your life and now you're saying you want to go to the gym six days a week because you've got this goal in mind, please, you're setting yourself up for failure. Don't do it. If you've never been, try once a week.
You can even set it up where you say once a week for the first month and then bump it up to two and eventually get to six days a week by the end of the year. But don't think that, like, especially if you're going to the gym and working out because you could say to yourself, hey, well, I'm at the gym. I didn't say that I had to work out. I'm here, you know.
So just be realistic. But also in that whole idea of being realistic, keep in mind that Murphy's law is always a great idea. Always, always in tech. It's always working.
It never stops. So things are going to go wrong. There will be obstacles. You're going to want to sleep in.
You're going to have issues. Work is going to get difficult and that'll give you an opportunity for an excuse. It's up to you to not accept that excuse or to show yourself a little grace and say, okay, today I'm not going to do what I would normally do. But tomorrow I'm getting back on the saddle and I'm going to do what I said I'm going to do.
So, and I know you're probably like, gosh, you got all these gym things. Are you trying to tell me something? Are you trying to say anything to go to the gym? No, but for me, the gym is usually one of the main things that people say they get a gym membership and they never use it.
They say they're going to eat better. Something happens somewhere on the line and it doesn't happen. So in keeping with that, make sure you have the supplies that you need. If you're saying you're going to increase your water intake throughout the day, then make sure you have a water bottle to carry with you You got to have the necessary supplies in order to make the dream a reality, right?
Last but not least, make sure you have somebody that's keeping you honest. Like have a check in, have somebody to maybe even join you in whatever this goal is that you've come up with and track your progress. And for sure, for sure, plan rewards. You cannot go hard in the paint all day and think that you don't need a pat on the back.
You need something, something to give that extra little motivation because you're going to hit a plateau, whether it's with weight loss, whether it's just with excitement about continuing to do whatever it is that you said you're going to do. So if you plan rewards, then that's kind of like, oh man, if I do this, then I get to that next level and this is what I said I'm going to give myself if I do that. But you got to be honest too. You can't sit there and say, oh yeah, I'm going to do all of this stuff and then don't do it and then still give yourself the reward.
It just doesn't work like that. Thank you so much for joining me for this last episode of 2021. That absolutely sounds crazy to say, but this is it for 2021. 2022 is right around the corner.
And so if in fact you are working on some resolutions, hopefully the tips that I gave you were enough to get you go in and to actually create some really good ones that you can stick with and have a successful and productive year in 2022. Now, once again, this is the last episode for the year. So the next time you hear my voice, it will be in 2022. So I pray that you have a safe, wonderful New Year celebration, whatever it is that you decide to do, and that you bring in the new year with new eyes, new faith, new dreams and aspirations.
And I would love to go on this journey with you in 2022 and all the great things that are going to happen for all of us. All right. Have a good one. Happy New Year.
And I'll see you guys on Tuesday in 2022.
