Welcome to the Tweet Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweet Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Vacationing part three, let's get started. Welcome back to Tweet Trends. We are in for the final installment of our discussion about vacations, vacationing, where it came from, all of the good stuff.
And the thing is, if you haven't already planned your vacation, what are you waiting for? The summer's almost over. Like before you know it, you're going to look, and it's going to be Labor Day. And you know what that means?
Time to get back to the Labor. Time to get back to work. And you don't want to let a single summer go by without being able to celebrate, to get together with family, to do the things that you want to do, and not always the things that you have to do. So I said all of that to say, if you have not secured your vacation plans, please, by all means, go ahead and do so.
If I were a travel agent or something, I would definitely be like, you know what? Let me help you. That's not my lane. But I can tell you to go ahead and prioritize yourself, prioritize your family, get out there, do something fun, and enjoy yourself.
I know what you're thinking. That sounded like the end of an episode, and not the beginning, but let me reassure you, this is only the beginning. Yes, I want to talk about that guy I mentioned in the last episode. Remember, I said it was this guy.
I don't know how much I told you about him, but here goes the story. He takes his kids to amusement parks. And at these places, all of the parents are sitting off on the little benches, and the kids are having a blast. They are loving it, they're living their best lives, and the parents are just kind of sitting off to the side.
And this guy was like, no, there's got to be a better way to do this so that the kids and the parents can have fun at the same time, so that I can have fun with my kids and not just have fun watching them have fun. And so he took this idea of this concept. He massaged the whole amusement park idea and turned it into a thing that was just mind blowing, and it still remains to be mind blowing. This thing that he created was Disneyland.
We're talking about Walt Disney. Now, his brother, he wasn't 100% on board about this. He's kind of like, hey, hey, wait, wait, wait, what are you doing? We got this cartoon movie industry thing going on over here to the side.
We know how to run this. We know how this works. Let's stay in our lane, leave the amusement to these other guys, and just be good. But Walt was like, nope, nope, nope, nope.
And I'm mentioning this, for those of you, my creatives out there that are listening, when you come up with these brilliant ideas, don't let them go. When you go and take that idea to your friend, your family member, whatever, and they turn into an alienator, and they're kind of like, oh gosh, what are you thinking? No, that's awful. That's terrible.
I'm pretty sure there's somebody over there doing that already. Walk away. Turn. Run even.
OK? Everybody cannot see your vision. Everybody's not supposed to see your vision. But the people that it resonates with, that's going to be your tribe.
As amazing and popular as Disneyland is, everybody hasn't been there because it's not everybody's thing. But for the people that enjoy that sort of thing, I guarantee you, they've been there multiple times over, and over, and over. So I know I just went off on a tangent. Let me get back on track.
But I just wanted to say that because when you come up with these ideas, don't let anybody talk you out of it. Don't let anybody tell you that it's not as great. Don't let anybody take the wind out of your sails. OK.
I went back off on a tangent. Let's get back on the road. Back to Walt Disney. So like I said, his brother wasn't feeling it, but he's like, OK, let's do this.
They do it. Boom. This is amazing. Now granted, it wasn't without its problems.
The very first day that opened, there were long lines of people wanting to get in. And it just wasn't the greatest experience. But he monitored and adjusted on the fly. He did everything he could to make sure that Doggett today might have been a sucky day.
But tomorrow is going to be a little less sucky than what today is. And we're going to keep building on that thing until we get it right. I love that mindset. And if you've got ideas, I want you to take it on as well.
Don't forget, like I said before, Walt Disney was taking his children to amusement parks. So that means, contrary to popular belief, that Disneyland was the first. Nope, it was not. As a matter of fact, amusement parks existed before Walt Disney was even born.
And he was born in 1901. So what these other older amusement parks have been run in since the 1800s. And it seemed also that the majority of them were on the east coast. So when Walt Disney came up with his idea, and he decided to put it Disneyland in Anaheim, genius.
Because for the people over on that side of the country, now they have a place that they can go to without having to go snack, dab all the way across to the east coast to have a little bit of fun. When we sit and think about this whole talk of vacationing and how Walt did this along with his brother, and then shoot, on top of that, I even mentioned Epcot. After Disneyland launched, he's like, oh, I got this other idea. Come on, brother, let's do this.
Now, well, Disney did not live long enough to see the grand opening of Epcot. But he had already laid out the vision and all that good stuff. And then he definitely wasn't around in 71 when Disney World came online. But the idea is that in all of the situations, even the ones before he was born, the idea was to get the people to come out and have a good time.
And that is the bottom line of this entire series of vacation episodes. Get out there and go have a good time. Tomorrow is not promised to you. Life is short, and you can't take the money with you.
So just get your mind right. A vacation is going to cost money. But think of it as an investment in the future, an investment in memories, an investment in those things that somebody can hold on to long after you're gone. Put the time and effort into planning vacations.
Now, if you're a parent and you're a little bit more on the history side, and your kids are more on the hands-on side, then come up with a trip where everybody can get a little bit of something in it versus just one or the other. The other thing to consider is don't just do it when they're little. Continue to take vacations as families, whether it's family reunions and put them in different parts of the country or maybe different places where you have other family members. Continue to travel with your family.
You will create some great memories, and you're going to have a good time in the moment too. So not only is it good for the present, it's good for the future. It's a great investment. Now, if I were a travel agent, I would be booking everybody on some type of a flight of cruise of something, a getaway, just to get you to let your hair down and enjoy yourself.
Enjoy your family because it's not forever. You won't be here forever. But if you can put some great memories into the minds of your loved ones, I'm telling you, it goes a long way. Thanks so much for joining me for today's episode.
The current statistics show that United States families are taking more vacations than ever, but they're shorter vacations, but they're still taking more vacations. If you are not part of that statistic, here's what I need you to do. Sit down and start planning the most epic vacation ever. Now, it doesn't have to happen this year.
I know we're in the 11th hour now. Maybe next year or the year after that. So as you're planning for that stuff there, let's rewind a little. You still can't forget about now.
It just doesn't have to be as big of a trip as the epic one. You can be a tourist in your own town. You can go to a museum, the beach, maybe do a car trip, someplace not too far away. There are things that you can do on a budget now today that will prove to be some great memory makers with your family.
And then when you get to the epic one, then just know that it's going to be off the chain and y'all are going to have a blast. And it's going to be all anybody can talk about for years. But the bottom line is, you have to do it. Set aside some money.
I did see a statistic on that that families are setting aside $4,000 for vacation expenses. Now, that's going to determine. I mean, that's going to depend on what size family you have. You can do a vacation on less.
And it can be a great one. You can do a vacation with more. It could be a great one too. But the idea behind it all is take a vacation.
OK. And when you do share with me, I would love to know what you decided to do. You know what to find me, Twitter, and Instagram at hebet. That's at h-y-e-v-e-t-e or just look for the hashtag tweet trends.
