Knowing God’s Word comes with responsibility. When we have come to know Him and experienced the guidance of His Spirit, we should have a deeper understanding of what He asks of us. It is one thing to act without understanding. It is another to know God’s commands and still choose to lie, cheat, steal, or commit adultery. When we know better, God calls us to do better. Our faith should influence our choices, including the ones nobody else sees.James 4:17 teaches that knowing the good we ought to do and failing to do it is sin. Jesus also teaches in Luke 12:47–48 that greater knowledge brings greater accountability. That does not mean believers are perfect or that we are better than anyone else. We all need God’s grace. But grace should lead us toward repentance, honesty, and change. When we fall short, we need to acknowledge it, seek forgiveness, and take responsibility for the harm we have caused.Before we point out someone else’s wrongdoing, we should examine our own hearts. Are we living by the Word we share? Are we willing to obey God when obedience is uncomfortable or costs us something?Knowing Scripture is only the beginning.
