Ivanhoe Chapter 35
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which Isaac of York, burdened by fever and anxious hopes, seeks audience at the austere Preceptory of Templestowe to ransom his daughter, Rebecca, whose healing gifts and Jewish lineage evoke severe suspicion and disdain among the rigid knights. We witness the intense zeal and bitter reflections of Lucas Beaumanoir, Grand Master of the Templars, as he resolves to purge his Order’s corruption, casting a dark shadow over those who stand before his judging eye.
