Ivanhoe Chapter 42
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which the valiant King Richard and his devoted companion Ivanhoe are welcomed into the solemn heart of Coningsburgh Castle, where mournful rites and melancholy ceremonies honour the presumed-dead Athelstane, amidst the sombre presence of Saxon nobles and ladies. Amidst solemn pledges and dire revelations, an astonishing resurrection disrupts the mourning, leading to dramatic confessions, renewed allegiances, and swift departures that stir the ancient hall into a fervent stir.
