Ivanhoe Chapter 9
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which a mysterious and victorious knight, known only as the Disinherited Knight, claims the prize of the tournament and, with measured grace, selects the fair Saxon Lady Rowena as the Queen of Beauty, much to the delight of the Saxon spectators and the displeasure of Prince John. The day's grand proceedings close amid whispered conjectures and shifting alliances, while the humble yeoman’s unyielding spirit draws the wary eye of the resentful prince as the crowd disperses into the fading light.
