Jack Hester - "Don't Compare Yourself to Everybody Else"

Jack was never a runner in his early years and only began running in his late twenties and early thirties. After a while, he decided to sign up for a marathon despite never having run a 5k or 10k before. He trained using a program but did not do it with intentionality. The marathon was both a sweet and bitter experience, and Jack has only run two races in his life, a marathon, and a half marathon.Jack discusses the parallels between running and the Christian spiritual journey. He talks about the importance of knowing what you're doing and why you're doing it, not just going through the motions. He also addresses the issue of burnout and how comparing oneself to others can lead to self-defeat. Finally, Jack discusses the history of the term "burnout" and how it was first used in relation to machines.Jack recommends finding a community or someone with the same interest to get started, and how the Couch to 5K program is a manageable program for beginners.
